Did You Know? I Quit Meat for 9 Months, See What Happened to My Body
We’ve been taught from a very young age that meat is fundamental for good health. Yet countless people have switched to a vegetarian lifestyle and swear by it, saying that it completely changed their lives for the better. So what’s the deal, do we need meat or not? I decided to find out and conducted my own experiment: I gave up meat for 9 months straight! Here's how it went.
SUMMARY:
- Everything changed the day I came across some girl's blog online. First of all, she was so beautiful, skinny, and happy! I wanted to know her secret to being drop-dead gorgeous, and lucky for me, that’s exactly what her blog was sharing.
- My new menu was simple: fish, cheese, cereals and grains, as well as lots of other tasty (yet healthy!) goodies. It actually wasn’t that difficult to stick to.
- Getting out of bed wasn’t easy; I still felt like a zombie and hated my alarm clock just the same. So I guess it was pretty naive of me to think that the diet alone could magically turn me into a morning person...
- When I stopped eating meat, my heart rate actually increased and my running pace got way slower! If before the experiment I could easily run a 13-mile marathon, I now felt awful and barely finished the thing.
- But over these 9 months, my waist really did get smaller, and all my skirts and pants became too big for me. So, naturally, I went on a shopping spree for smaller sizes.
- My hemoglobin, ferritin, and serum iron levels were way too low. All this meant one thing: I had anemia.
- This diet did send me to the doctor, so I now strongly urge everyone else to visit a doctor before you try a new diet.
